At least 25 orienteers tested sprint-type route choices on two "anytime" courses at Lower Hutt over the weekend. The "E-Sprint" was a longer version of the usual campus-based sprints. Andrew Riddle was fastest on the 5.2km Long course, which due to numerous no-go points and no-cross roads was more like 7.5km. Barriers are a common feature of international sprints now, to add spice when every competitor can "see" the terrain beforehand via the internet. Ali Power was fastest on the 3km Short course (at least 4.5km or more depending on route choice). She was just 54 seconds ahead of her father William. Results including links to routes and split times have been posted, and the maps have been added to the Virtual Course list at www.ohv.org.nz/about/anytime-orienteering/.
