After a frosty start, 100 orienteers enjoyed a sunny day at Catchpool Stream for the first OY of 2023. They first got the juices flowing in a 2km Prolog near the Remutaka Park entrance, featuring interconnected picnic areas around the former Info Centre. Then they moved up to the main carpark, base for the 6 Middle distance courses. Nick Smith a Chch student studying at Te Herenga Waka cut out Long Red in 34min, while Yvette Baker was the fastest woman. With the CSW series over, schoolies used the opportunity to move up a colour, with Y9 Cameron Johns winning Orange and Eliot Faulkner taking Red Short.
